3-D Service wind technicians recently completed training in fall protection as well as certification to perform turbine climber and rescue in accordance with ANSI/ASSE Z490.1-2001 . Training included a combination of classroom sessions and physical exercises to train climbers in the principles of fall protection and rescue.
The program, taken through Gravitec Systems of Bainbridge Island, Washington, focused on a planned approach to working at heights and included basic fall protection principles, most common methods used to protect climbers from the fall hazards encountered on towers, and an overview of commercially available fall arrest systems. Participants learned how to create, select and execute the safest, most appropriate fall protection and rescue techniques for working at heights. To receive certification, trainees were required to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform tower rescues, including protection of rescuers and anchoring, packaging and lowering the injured party.
Gravitec Systems has over 20 years of experience designing and developing customized training, engineering and equipment programs. Their wind turbine training programs fit the diverse needs of the industry and give special attention to the complexities of servicing wind turbines safely. After our wind technicians completed the vigorous training, they received Gravitec’s Fall Protection Manual and a picture ID with certificate of graduation along with 4.0 Continuing Education Units through the International Association for Continuing Education and Training.
